Welcome to Ash Class
(Reception and Year 1)
This year Ash Class is a mixed group of 21 Reception and Year 1 children who are supported by Miss Linthorne and Mrs Wainwright. We enjoy an active curriculum in Reception, which encourages the children to develop their knowledge and understanding whilst helping them to work with greater independence. We give the Year 1 children opportunities for practical learning and open-ended tasks to promote deeper thinking and to support the development of resilience in their learning.
In Ash Class we enjoy working hard to help us to become the best that we can be. We like to put lots of our work on display so that we can celebrate the wonderful things we have been doing and learning. We are friendly, kind and helpful to others and have an excellent attitude towards our work.
We repsect ourselves, respect others and respect our environment.
In terms 1 and 2, our class learning enquiry big question is 'What am I?'
The enquiry is underpinned by three key concepts : Self, belonging and culture.
Throughout their learning journey, children explore a number of key questions. These will be:
Who am I and what makes me special?
What does each part of my body do? (including the senses)
What makes me similar to animals?
What makes me different to animals?
What makes other people special?
What has changed over time?
AutumnTerm 2024
Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a lovely break over Summer.
We would especially like to welcome our new reception children and parents to our school community!
This term our learning theme is 'What Am I?' We will be reading a variety of different texts, including The Colour Monster, Home, Ruby's Worry, Incredible You and My Body. Our class readers this term will include Shine, Willy the Wimp, Funny Bones, What the Ladybird Heard and The King's Hat. We will continue to develop our knowledge of phonics using Read Write Inc and this will help to support our spelling and reading skills. During this term the Reception children will continue to learn the sounds which many of them started to learn in Little Learners. This will support the children when they start blending the sounds to read words, with the help of our Frog called Fred. In Maths we will use NCETM to support the children when learning about numbers in fun and exciting ways. We continue to foster a love of Maths in Ash Class this year which will give the children good foundations when they move through the school. We encourage the children to investigate and reason about their maths, talking about what they are doing, why they have chosen this method and how they could change their approach when needed. In Science we will be learning about Humans and other animals. In PSHE our learning areas are ‘Being Me in my World' and 'Celebrating Differences'. We will be talking about ourselves, our feelings and celebrating what makes us special. In Computing we will be learning about online safety and data handling. In our learning theme we will be learning about our own history, the Royal family and comparing common animals, inlcuding fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will be exploring 3 key concepts in our learning themes throughout the year. These are Self, Belonging and Culture. We will be sketching and drawing in Art and making puppets in DT. In Music we will be learning about pulse and rhythm and dynamics and tempo.
We are looking forward to a busy and productive term!
